Chinese New Year and Red Lantern Festival Concert

Woodbury- In the spirit of cultural exchange, knowledge, and creating closer community ties, North Congregational Church, 11 Main St. North, will host a traditional Chinese New Year and Red Lantern Festival concert at 3 pm Sunday, February 16, 2025 featuring the Jasmine Performing Arts Instrumental Ensemble with special vocal selections by the Yale Community Chorus. There will be a Prelude at 2:30 pm featuring several children playing the violin and piano and singing. The Yale Community Chorus will add their voices to the celebration.

The Jasmine Performing Arts was founded in 2010 by Dr. Helen Hsu and Dr. Jack Liu of Middlebury as a non-profit organization whose mission is to share Chinese culture through musical performances and build friendship through community service.

Chinese instruments trace their origin to the Zhou dynasty (1122 BC-256 BC) with continued development in technology and style to the present day. The Traditional I instruments featured in the concert include Guzheng, Huqin, Erhu, Zhongshan Ruan, Yang Qin, Bamboo Flute, Wooden Fish, etc. It’s an opportunity to share in another musical culture in 2025, the Year of the Snake which symbolize passion, energy and transformation.

There is no admission charge but donations will be accepted to defray expenses. Questions may be directed to 203-263-2410 or northchurchwoodbury@gmail.com

It all begins when the temperature rises above freezing during the day and falls below freezing at night. These conditions trigger the sap to begin to flow up the tree. Tree tapping day is all outdoors and very weather dependent
